We’re really proud to be selected as a community partner for the 1851 Trust. We’ll be raising funds for them so that Isle of Wight kids can enjoy their workshops. It is widely recognised that not enough talented young people are choosing careers in science, engineering and technology. This is also especially true in the refrigeration world.
The 1851 Trust harness the power of professional sport to challenge perceptions and to excite more young people about the opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
The TECH DECK is a dynamic educational resource for students and teachers to support and promote the STEM agenda in schools, bringing the real-world of applied STEM into the classroom.
Located at the team base in Portsmouth, a school trip is a great opportunity to visit the impressive nerve-centre of a professional sports team as they prepare for one of sport’s greatest challenges.
Teachers and students will
learn about the materials used on the boat and sails (Strength vs Weight),
test their strength on a ‘grinder’ (Generating Power)
see the evolution of sailing equipment and materials
drive the yacht on the virtual reality simulator
interact with some of the latest technologies used by the race team
The visit will also include a curriculum-linked workshop activity.
Workshops are suitable for Key Stages 2 – 4
You can help us raise funds for them by purchasing any of our clothing in our #VRLife shop, where all profits will be donated to the Trust:
